ABOUT US

Mission:

SpaceTalks serves movement artists as a hub for accessible art-making resources while cultivating community throughout Denver and beyond.

What is a service organization? - Rather than focusing on making the art, SpaceTalks focuses on supporting the artists themselves and providing tools that help them bring their vision to fruition more easily. We provide resources to support your creative process, but also to support the business/administrative work of being an artist, and the community-level work of building an audience for dance/movement.

What do we mean by “movement artists”? - SpaceTalks is focused on the subsector of performing artists who use movement and/or dance as an integral part of their creative work. We use the word “movement” to make space for artists/organizations who are using the body as a medium, but may not consider their work “dance”.

What geographic area does SpaceTalks serve? - SpaceTalks is based in Denver and focused on serving the greater Denver metro area. Although, we are always open to collaborations and connections from elsewhere!

Vision:

Amidst the challenges of working as movement artists in Denver, SpaceTalks proclaims that we are better together. We cultivate resilience, community, and a sense of abundant potential that empowers movement practitioners, artists, and audience members to explore, connect, and push boundaries.

Values:

  • Empowering Artists - Artists are healers, visionaries, leaders, and community builders. We follow their lead. We want to make being an artist in Denver easier by providing a hub through which resources and information can be shared.

  • We are better together. - We cultivate belonging, solidarity, cooperation, and abundance. Working together can make our collective voice stronger as we advocate for movement and dance arts.

  • Accessibility - We welcome all disciplines, bodies, and experience levels. We prioritize making resources affordable and accessible and advocate for the health, well-being, and resilience of artists in our community.

  • Space is essential and shared space is powerful. - An empty room to work in is an essential tool for dance and movement artists. Being in that room with other people is nurturing, powerful, and an important part of being human.

Thank You to Our Community

We are not the first and will not be the last dance/movement service organization in Denver. We have benefitted directly or indirectly from the hard work of others including those who organized the Undergrowth Town Halls in 2022, the continued work of Presenting Denver, CODEO and The Dance Archive, and many others.

Thank you to all of the artists, administrators, dancers, audience members, choreographers, donors, teachers, class-takers, directors, movers, and fans who have shared their ideas and experiences and continue to inform our work.

Do you like what you see?
